Packrafting through a cave on Vancouver Island
SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/lifeofluke
I saw photos of Little Huson Cave and wondered if it was possible to packraft on this river, underground, and through the cave. So I went to North Vancouver Island and my brother teamed up with me to see if it was possible. We paddled where possibly no one has packrafted before.
Big thanks to Kent for his help with some of the video shots.
Thanks for watching!

A ghost town in the hills: Silver City, Idaho
Переглядів 1 тис.14 днів тому
SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/lifeofluke Silver City, Idaho is packed with history. This mining town in the mountains was founded in the 1860's with the boom and bust of valuable gold and silver mines. The peak population reached approximately 2500 people before almost dropping to zero after WWII. It never truly was abandoned and I use the term 'ghost town' loosely here, because although it felt like a gho...
The Lower Owyhee River by Packraft

We stopped by riverside hot springs, caves, desert tower formations, and saw lizards, rattlesnakes, owls, and many ot...

    So cool, Luke. In from 1981 to late 1982 I worked in that area as forest engineer. at the time the caves were not in a park but the provincial + federal govt at the time were exploring major cave systems on the north island as part of the Quatsino Karst limestone formation. As I guided them from Huson to the Tsulton river near beaver cove (part of the same limestone formation) we found an animal tusk embedded in some limestone rock that had been dislodged by timber falling in preparation for road building. Afterwards I was told the govt geologists discovered some major cave systems in the area. The north island is remarkable and is truly the road less traveled

      That's very cool, yeah I'd like to see more of the caves that exist on Vancouver island, as some are very infrequently visited I'm sure, there must be some incredible things to see. And the Island has the right rock and conditions for these caves to exist.

    went there a few times in the 1980ies ..explored several other caves on the slope above the river including a sketchy thru cave thats long and very tight and has a submerged section certain times of year , its easy to get trapped in the submerged section even when its dry as rocks can snag on you gear and belt

      Yeah, part of me wanted to explore the small caves as well, not just the river one, but I have to say those tight squeeze passages do make me feel claustrophobic... I prefer the large cave openings and rooms.

    I moved to Ocean Falls with my parents in 1955 when two years of age and lived there until 1968. Best place to live as a child and young person although somewhat sheltered from the city life moving to Prince George where my father worked at the pulp mill as a millwright. I have wanted to return to this home place but have decided to remember my experiences in a town that offered me a stepping stone in life. I am now seventy years of age living in the city of Vancouver and really appreciate the photos of the past and the positive memories that I will never forget.

    Just curious.. obviously bear spray is a must have but wondering if carrying a rifle for added protection is recommended, another must have and if that is even legal? Bear/ cougar encounters really scare me enough to never venture to places i would love to see… great video, absolutley beautiful… 😀

    • @lifeofluke
      @lifeofluke 6 днів тому

      Bear spray would suffice, although I know there are some that like to have the extra protection of a rifle -- only as a last resort because shooting grizzly bears is illegal in BC. There are also many good practices that avoid having any issues with bears, like keeping all food scents away from your tent and in scent proof bags.
